Cyberpunk 2077 Generates 30,000 Refund Requests for CD Projekt Red

The Polish company continues to share information about the “disaster” that Cyberpunk 2077 caused at its launch.

Cyberpunk 2077 will go down in history as a title of contradictions. Its premiere in December 2020 generated a record in the finances of CD Projekt Red, although it was tainted by the embarrassing bugs present in its versions of PS4 and Xbox One. Now, the study shared another detail that demonstrates the difficult times they went through.

According to a report made by the Polish company, details were revealed about the Help me to refund campaign, which they implemented just a few days after the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 to help with the return of money for those who were not satisfied with the product.

The company indicated that the title sold 13.7 million units in its first three weeks. No less than 8.46 million zlotys (equivalent to 2.23 million dollars) were invested for the aforementioned program of all the earnings. This program contemplated only the cost of refunds for customers who managed directly with CD Projekt Red and did not include returns from other platforms such as the PlayStation Store.

The study indicates that approximately 30,000 reimbursement requests were made (only directly with them) and that all were successfully attended. These numbers coincide with the analyzes made several months ago by some portals such as Super Data, who indicated that Cyberpunk 2077 returns represented a minimum percentage of revenue. Not even events like removing the title from the PlayStation Store affected its healthy, if unusual, sales curve.

Cyberpunk 2077 helped CD Projekt Red break its revenue record

Despite the many criticisms, the video game released in December 2020 managed to raise amounts never before received by the company.

Cyberpunk 2077 is considered by many to be one of the great disappointments of 2020 and even of the decade. The large number of bugs with which the game debuted in its console version overshadowed all the expectations that had accumulated for years. However, this has nothing to do with its commercial performance, which was optimal and even helped its developers break a record.

According to a recent report by GamesIndustry.biz, Cyberpunk 2077 has managed to surpass the old studio mark in terms of financial results. Sales earnings were more than double what they achieved in 2015, the year The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was released. Preliminary numbers for CD Projekt Red in 2020 indicate earnings of up to $ 562 million, four times the 2019 mark. This is a new record in the entire history of the Polish studio.

The aforementioned 2015 record was $ 210 million, meaning that Cyberpunk 2077 helped surpass that year’s mark by even two and a half times. In terms of net income, in 2020 it managed to reach 303 million dollars, which triples the mark (also from 2015) of 89.8 million. Full financial results are expected to be released in April.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One and has just received a giant preliminary update to its multiplayer mode that is not yet fully confirmed.
